Bhakti Shah
Hello! I am Bhakti Shah. I am a registered social worker and psychotherapist in Ontario, Canada. I have a Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies (formerly known as Child Development) and Master’s in Social Work. I have also completed a Certificate in Canadian Social Work Practice from Toronto Metropolitan University. I have more than 16 years experience working with children and families. I work with children and parents who seek support on various relationship challenges and struggle to build and maintain a connected, harmonious relationship. I also work with individual women facing depression, anxiety, burnout, parenting challenges, social trauma, difficulties setting boundaries and dealing with other stressful experiences.
My approach is client-centered, holistic and collaborative. I embody the fact that clients are the experts on their lives. I rely a lot on evoking my client’s inner wisdom. I am very passionate about social justice and stay committed to providing inclusive, trauma-informed, attachment-focused and decolonial services.
I am an eclectic professional who uses CBT , solution-focused brief therapy, somatic and mindfulness practices to support clients. I mostly lean towards bottom-up modalities that are grounded in trauma-informed, attachment theories and systemic frameworks.
I identify as a first-generation South Asian (Indian) - Canadian immigrant woman and a mother to 2 beautiful children. I am a relational trauma survivor and live with invisible disabilities. I am able to support clients who speak English, Hindi and Gujarati and have a basic understanding of Urdu and Punjabi.
I know how hard it is to reach out for help, but please be sure it is also your first step to change.
