Therapist

INTERN THERAPIST

Hello! My name is Samantha and I am a Certified Music Therapist and Intern Therapist pursuing a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. As a queer woman of colour, I am dedicated to creating an inclusive and safe space for all my clients.

My journey as a Certified Music Therapist has highlighted the profound impact of music in healing and self-expression. This inspired me to pursue further training in psychotherapy in order to integrate more diverse therapeutic modalities to best meet the needs of each individual.

As a queer Chinese-Canadian woman with Jamaican heritage, I bring a unique perspective to my practice through my firsthand understanding of the intersections between culture, identity, and lived experiences. I celebrate diversity and foster inclusivity in my practice by recognizing and affirming the unique backgrounds and identities of each individual.

I prioritize creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment where clients feel empowered to explore their emotions, life experiences, and thoughts openly and without judgment. Building a trusting therapeutic relationship forms the foundation for effective therapy by ensuring that clients feel heard, respected, and valued throughout their journey towards healing and personal growth.

Approach to Therapy

I aim to employ an eclectic and holistic approach to therapy that is uniquely tailored to each client. By integrating cognitive-behavioural, humanistic, and solution-focused modalities, I create customized treatment plans that address individual experiences, goals, and needs. This personalized approach empowers clients to explore new perspectives, navigate challenges, and develop effective coping strategies that align with their strengths and values. My goal is to foster emotional wellbeing, personal empowerment, and resilience through collaborative and client-centered therapy.

I am passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ and racialized young adults, adults, and elders. I strive to ensure that each client feels valued, understood, and empowered throughout their therapeutic journey.

"Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.”
